To all monks: What builds do YOU run in PvE? A collection of builds.
Yes, I know there are a lot of build posts out there, but some are just plain bad and most have great ideas but have gone untested. In order to make the builds section of my guide more extensive, I'm hoping to get community help on what builds you like to run. Please only submit builds that are general builds (aka not dungeon/farm specific, etc.)
Things I need:
- Your individual monk builds, attributes, and possibly a short description why.
or
- Your team builds when going with heroes and henchies. What heroes do you take, and what henchies?
Bad, untested builds need not apply here. I don't want this thread to get cluttered with a bunch of flames about how bad the builds are. Neither should this be an "improve my build" thread. I want well-tested builds that are ready for critique and ready to go in the builds section to help out starter monks.
Disclaimer: This thread is under dictatorship-like moderation. Bad posts will get purged.

Either 3 SF heroes/SS+Shatterstone+Whatever I feel like, or N/Rt, Jagged MM and SS. As for henchies, in GWEN Zho and Lo Sha with one of the monks and Herta, anywhere else i just add henchies at random.

[skill]light of deliverance[/skill][skill]dwayna's kiss[/skill][skill]infuse health[/skill][skill]dismiss condition[/skill][skill]cure hex[/skill][skill]holy haste[/skill][skill]heal party[/skill][skill]glyph of lesser energy[/skill]
This is for areas where I know I'll be facing either a lot of burning, or just a lot of nasty degen.
Attributes: 14 healing, 10 divine, 10 prot
[skill]word of healing[/skill][skill]dwayna's kiss[/skill][skill]reversal of fortune[/skill][skill]dismiss condition[/skill][skill]cure hex[/skill][skill]aegis[/skill][skill]protective spirit[/skill][skill]glyph of lesser energy[/skill]
This is my normal hybrid build, the build I use the most.
Attributes: 14 healing, 11 prot, 9 divine
These are my 2 main builds really. I might adjust 1 or 2 skills, this depends of the area/enemies I'm about to face.
Example: I'd change aegis for [skill]extinguish[/skill] when playing against ruby djinns.
Heroes are mostly:
1 MM with [skill]virulence[/skill][skill]epidemic[/skill] and ofcourse some minion producing skills + [skill]blood of the mastesr[/skill]
2x Fire ele with [skill]mind blast[/skill][skill]rodgort's invocation[/skill][skill]ward against melee[/skill][skill]ward against elements[/skill] + attunement, gole, hard res.

I play this build which works great
[card]Life Bond[/card][card]Blessed Signet[/card][card]Glimmer of Light[/card][card]Patient Spirit[/card][card]Balthazar's Spirit[/card][card]Divine Boon[/card][card]Mantra of Inscriptions[/card][card]Resurrection Chant[/card]
I heal over 100 health with Patient Spirit before it activates. 200 health with glimmer of light. I works very well, if it doesn't work for you, to hard to maintain. Switch divine boon with something else.

My typical normal mode PvE team build in Eye of The North is as follows:
Me:
[skill]Light of Deliverance[/skill][skill]Reversal of Fortune[/skill][skill]Dwayna's Kiss[/skill][skill]Dismiss Condition[/skill][skill]Cure Hex[/skill][skill]Shield of Absorption[/skill][skill]Protective Spirit[/skill][skill]Aegis[/skill]
Yup, LoD is still king in normal mode PvE, no question.
I run this build, with slight variations on occasion, in both my H/H team build and in PuGs.
Ogden:
[skill]Light of Deliverance[/skill][skill]Signet of Rejuvenation[/skill][skill]Dwayna's Kiss[/skill][skill]Ethereal Light[/skill][skill]Mend Condition[/skill][skill]Cure Hex[/skill][skill]Holy Haste[/skill][skill]Resurrection Chant[/skill]
I used to run WoH on Ogden after the LoD nerf, but then I realized that WoH still sucks hard, especially on heroes who use it very poorly. I wanted to move him back to LoD, given both LoD's superiority to WoH as well as its newfound synergy with a second copy of itself (no more 80% condition). But LoD needs to be 1 second for Ogden to use it much and for me to trust him with it when he does. Then I realized that the only enchantments Ogden was carrying had been Aegis (second copy) and Vigorous Spirit/Shielding Hands, so I moved him to a LoD + Holy Haste build and simply outsourced the second copy of Aegis to one of my SF Ele's and dropped Vigorous Spirit/Shielding Hands, which was just Kiss-fuel fluff anyway.
Ogden uses Holy Haste perfectly, LoD more than he did pre-nerf, and Ethereal Light better than he does WoH. And I still get to keep my second copy of Aegis.
Vekk:
[skill]Fire Attunement[/skill][skill]Glyph of Lesser Energy[/skill][skill]Searing Flames[/skill][skill]Glowing Gaze[/skill][skill]Liquid Flame[/skill][skill]Aegis[/skill][skill]Aura of Restoration[/skill][skill]Resurrection Chant[/skill]
SF Eles have more room for utility than you think. I'm even tinkering with dropping Aura of Restoration for another utility skill, or failing that maybe another damage skill. Right now I don't know what to put there, so Aura of Restoration is just sort of a Kiss-fuel fluff skill for the time being. Res Chant can also be swapped for a Rez Sig if needed. I run 9 prot for Aegis, which gives me 9 seconds + %20 mod. Aegis is red-barred, of course; I control the Aegis chain.
Attributes here are max fire, 10 energy storage, 9 prot.
Zhed:
[skill]Fire Attunement[/skill][skill]Glyph of Lesser Energy[/skill][skill]Searing Flames[/skill][skill]Glowing Gaze[/skill][skill]Liquid Flame[/skill][skill]Steam[/skill][skill]Aura of Restoration[/skill][skill]Resurrection Chant[/skill]
Same thing as Vekk, only with Steam in the utility slot. Steam is outstanding, and heroes use it superbly. Does 72 damage and 8 seconds of blind for only 8 points in water, and it's cheap and spammable.
Attributes here are max fire, 11 energy storage, 8 water.
Herta: Wards and Sandstorm
Zho: Broad Head Arrow and interrupts
Devona: Damage and KO
Talon: Damage, deep wound, and utility (cripple, interrupt, defense)
In places where burning is not applicable I swap out the SF heroes for 2 physicals, so I lose my second copy of Aegis, but add things like Watch Yourself and such to make up for it.
I know people are going to wince at seeing Holy Haste in there (I would have too about a week ago), but a 1 second LoD just obliterates WoH, and outsourcing Aegis to Vekk is so damn effective and easy I don't know why I didn't think of it before. Besides, I'd rather have Vekk stuck in that 2 second cast than Ogden.

It's a fast cast nuker without the fast cast
The builds on the wiki are just the same 12 skills over and over, without much explanation, so you can just write out the list above. With more Heal Party and less RoF, though.

Mo/E, nothing fancy.. just general healer build with prot spirit thrown in to counter spikes and GoLE for energy management. Breeze is for chars who have a lot of degen. I don't use this in conjunction with any heroes in particular, although I'm usually bringing Ogden (running a heal/prot hybrid with hex and condition removal) and Vekk (SF nuker) since they're my only lvl 20 heroes atm XD
[skill]word of healing[/skill][skill]signet of rejuvenation[/skill][skill]healing whisper[/skill][skill]reversal of fortune[/skill][skill]glyph of lesser energy[/skill][skill]healing breeze[/skill][skill]protective spirit[/skill][skill]resurrect[/skill]
Healing Prayers 13 (12+1)
Divine Favor 9 (8+1)
Protection Prayers 11 (10+1)
I use The Scar Eater as my main staff, because I can't afford anything higher.
pros: Ability to bring party members back from near death with WoH (it's happened a lot, I anticipate a spike on an aggroed person and I begin casting WoH, right after the spike I finish casting and their health goes back up.) The antispike prot spirit, relatively decent energy management. Depending on how funded you are and whether you have lvl 20 friends willing to run you to cay and into the desert, you can get the elite very early on. Even at lower levels WoH is still useful. (I capped it at lvl 7)
cons: From experience, lots of knockdown/interrupts will kill this build like most caster builds. I found this out in the Shiverpeaks <_< Party-wide damage can also give you trouble since all your heals are directed towards single targets.
A possible variant could be replacing breeze with heal area/Karei's healing circle. In a henchie/hero situation frequently the casters will clump up, meaning that if you stand in the middle of them then they'll all be healed 160 at once. Downside to this is that attacking melee foes will get healing if they're too close, so use common sense on when to cast it.

Drop LoD now for Word, and Aegis for Glyph lesser and this is the exact bar that I run as well as talkorah. Having this bar compliments itself very well and she has very little trouble using it very effectively.

For NM PvE:
As i recall: healing 13 | Prot 10 | Divine 12
[skill]word of healing[/skill][skill]reversal of fortune[/skill][skill]dwayna's Kiss[/skill][skill]dismiss condition[/skill][skill]spirit bond[/skill][skill]cure hex[/skill][skill]aegis[/skill][skill]guardian[/skill]
N/Rt:
[skill]spoil victor[/skill][skill]order of pain[/skill][skill]life[/skill][skill]flesh of my flesh[/skill][skill]mend body and soul[/skill][skill]spirit light[/skill][skill]vengeful weapon[/skill][skill]ghostmirror light[/skill]
N/E:
[skill]animate bone minions[/skill][skill]animate shambling horror[/skill][skill]death nova[/skill][skill]jagged bones[/skill][skill]blood of the master[/skill][skill]signet of lost souls[/skill][skill]ward against melee[/skill][skill]resurrection signet[/skill]
N/P:
[skill]spiteful spirit[/skill][skill]barbs[/skill][skill]enfeeble[/skill][skill]signet of lost souls[/skill][skill]anthem of weariness[/skill][skill]anthem of disruption[/skill][skill]godspeed[/skill][skill]never surrender[/skill]
Basically I modified SAB's build to deal more dmg, and offer differt protective buffs. Works like a charm anywhere. If i was going to do HM PvE, I modify the build according to the area i am going to PvE in, and i also will take along a Mhenlo to help handle the workload. My build will also change to include Prot Spirit.
Henchmen:
Mesmer type
interrupt type
Warriors x2 | or Earth Ele + Blood Necro
Basically any non monk hench will do.

5e as opposed to 10e -- and all i really want to get is the effect of weakness when facing a hard hitting opponent (aka boss) rarely do i find that you are facing multiple hard hitting opponents. But sure you could swap in enfeebling blood.

Y'all write a lot of words to say you pretty much run the same things.
12 Smiting
12 Divine
Signet of Judgment [E]
Castigation Signet
Divine Boon
Smiter's Boon
Reversal of Damage
Smite Condition
Smite Hex
Death Pact Signet
Why wouldn't you run a hard res in pve; especially in missions and vanquishing?

[skill]Rebirth[/skill][skill]Protective Spirit[/skill][skill]Reversal of Fortune[/skill][skill]Zealous Benediction[/skill][skill]Draw Conditions[/skill][skill]Remove Hex[/skill][skill]Guardian[/skill][skill]Aegis[/skill]
Sometimes I put in [skill]Shield of Absorption[/skill]
I max out Protection Prayers and Divine:
12 + 2 Prot
12 Divine
- with the rest of my rune space into boosting health or energy.
I use almost the same builds on both of my two monks - one native to Prophesies and the other to Nightfall.
If I expect particularly heavy conditions or hexes, or nearly no to no conditions or hexes I will change out those parts. I prefer Remove Hex over Holy Veil for ease of timing and energy management - but I'm not very satisfied with the performance of any hex removal I have on my monks. My mesmer seems better at that... So if I expect especially heavy hexes, I try to bring along Gwen.
I forget exactly where, but in one of the spots on the Ring of Fire islands I used a build that was half condition removal skills and no healing at all as even my elite was a condition removal - as the sole monk. Which is just to say that special circumstances can make a bad build temporarily good.
Today, on my Earth Elementalist, I joined a PUG of 5/6 in Elona's Reach. For #6 one of the members put in Ogden and had [skill]Word of Healing[/skill]. PUG former told them that was a bad elite and to put in [skill]Shield of Regeneration[/skill] instead.
I didn't say anything, I just clicked the leave button.
I don't remember the rest of the build. That comment alone though was enough for me to decide that group would probably wipe...
Shield was a good elite for me, back when it was the only elite I had. It got me far enough to go and cap ZB for my monks and WoH for my hero backup.

This was pretty much the only pve build I'd use pre-LoD nerf. Haven't really pve'd since, but I suppose it would still work with word.

Because a Death Pact Signet or two and a Signet of Return on non-Monks is better than wasting a slot for it on a Monk's bar.

Here is what I run:
heal: 12+1+1
prot: 10+1
divine favor: 8+1
[skill]reversal of fortune[/skill][skill]word of healing[/skill][skill]protective spirit[/skill][skill]dismiss condition[/skill][skill]cure hex[/skill][skill]shield of absorption[/skill][skill]aegis[/skill][skill]glyph of lesser energy[/skill]
I have a prot switch with a 40% fast cast prot and +20% enchant staff and a 40/40 healing set I use when casting WoH and Cure Hex.
As of heroes, I usually bring a Monk with the same build, and a pair of paragons with spear attacks and [skill]"fall back!"[/skill] because running 33% faster 24/7 is nice.

This is my PvE Monk build atm. Guardian instead of SoA works as well. Excellent healing with WoH, small prot and large prot, condition and hex removal. It's hard to run out of energy with this and there's even room for a rez. No argument about Monks carrying a rez please.. :P It's PvE after all.
